Keeping a Classy Face – Primer Edition

I had originally hoped to include my new Naked 3 palette in this discussion, but unfortunately my order is delayed, per the UPS tracking website.  I’m a bit upset, as one of the perks of being a VIB at Sephora is to receive access to certain items before they are launched to the public.  Well, the Naked 3 palette comes out tomorrow and I’m still waiting on my order.  I guess I’ll have to use my stupid old Naked 2 palette for another day or so.  (If I used hash tags, now would be the time to hash tag “white girl problems.”)

One of my biggest fears is the appearance of wrinkles.  Now that I’ve hit the big 3-0, I’m even more aware of the smallest crinkles, lines, and fissures.  Being raised by a mother who never went out unless her “face was put on,” I’ve been slathering on the anti-wrinkle cream since I was in my late teens.  Now, with the advent of primers, BB creams, and every other skin holy grail, I’m a little more particular about my potions.

I am currently using and loving Philosophy’s The Present as a primer.  I also use it at night after I wash my face.

Pros:  Price v. quantity is great; absorbs quickly, leaves face feeling bare and natural, my skin looks and feels healthier after using it regularly

Cons:  It smells kind of “leafy,” it doesn’t offer any real coverage

Before The Present I was using Smashbox’s More Than Primer Dark Spot Correcting.  While I liked this brand a lot, I also love rotating brands so that my skin doesn’t become “used” to a certain formula.  (There’s a good chance that the ability of my face to become “used” to something is complete bullshit, but it sounds legit and logical to me.)

Pros:  Great coverage, face felt soft, dark spots were actually lightened with regular use

Cons:  Price v. quantity

Along with the need for a primer to hide the fine lines that I imagine are growing daily, I also use an under-eye corrector.  Being a teacher and a mom of a toddler really takes a toll on the bags under my eyes.  Code:  when I don’t use the under-eye corrector, I look like a zombie crack head who slept under a bridge.  I’ve used a couple different formulas, some with better success than others.

I currently use Smashbox’s Photo Finish Hydrating Under Eye Primer.  Of all the formulas I’ve tried, this one is my favorite.

Pros:  Price v. quantity, very blendable, does not crease or crack as the day goes on, goes on lightly and feels weightless

In the past I’ve used various drugstore brands, but never with the success of Smashbox’s brand.  I’ve also received a deluxe sample of Bare Minerals’ Stroke of Light Eye Brightener, which I liked.  I will probably purchase this brand next to compare to the Smashbox option.

Stay tuned for the next installment of Keeping a Classy Face – Mascara Edition (and hopefully featuring some beautiful shadows from the Naked 3 palette)!
